Driving digital inclusion with Bentley Motors

Dean Burrows, Connecting Cheshire, Cheshire East

Cheshire East Borough Council, like many in the Online Centres Network, works with a lot of volunteers in their area. The problem was getting them to stick around! Although they had plenty of volunteers trained, they often moved on to employment or were scattered throughout the area...

In order to run consistent workshops at Crewe Library and better plan their activities for the future, they had the good idea of approaching one of their major local employers, Bentley Motors. In asking to draw on their pool of trainees, apprentices and graduates, it's a win-win for both parties. Bentley contributes to their social responsibilities and adds to the depth of learning for their young talent and Cheshire East now have a long-term helping hand, enabling them to run workshops on internet security, social media and more.

The moral of the story? Don't be afraid to approach your local employers, colleges and universities for help.
