Opportunity Plus in Exeter has come up with a good idea for motivating their learners and groups. Being focussed on helping learners into employment, they understand how it can be disheartening for them when trying to get in (or back in) to work.
To combat this, the centre offers learners tokens for reaching certain milestones, such as completing a Learn My Way course, updating their CV, or writing their first covering letter. Tokens collected can be swapped for useful rewards such as diaries, pens and memory sticks - even tablets!
They make the rewards fit for purpose (participate in an arts and crafts group? Tokens can get you a paint set), which adds to the learners' incentive to carry on learning and succeed.
